Connect your telephone number
Open Settings → Funeral home → Phone settings to connect a number, buy one, or track a transfer. Staff with telephone provisioning permission can change the setup and run verification tests.
Keep your current carrier
- Choose Connect a number, then the forwarding option.
- Enter the published number families call.
- Select the destination line and the location that should answer first.
- Save the setup, then enable forwarding with your current carrier using the destination shown.
Saving in Cortege does not change your carrier settings. Follow the instructions for your carrier or contact its support team. Your existing carrier account and charges continue.
Test forwarding and routing
Run both tests on the setup:
- Destination test: call the Cortege destination line directly.
- Forwarding test: call your published number and confirm it reaches that destination.
For each test, enter the handset you will call from, make the call, and type the code you hear before it expires. Calls from other handsets continue through normal routing.
Some carriers provide evidence that a call was forwarded. If yours does not, Cortege asks you to confirm which number you dialled and records your confirmation.
After the required tests pass, use Turn it on. Changing the routing makes earlier tests out of date, so repeat them before activation.
Transfer a number
A transfer moves ownership of the number to the new provider. Keep service with your current carrier until the move is confirmed.
Choose Start a transfer and enter:
- The carrier account holder's name, account type and primary telephone number, exactly as registered with that carrier.
- The authorized representative's name and email address.
- The carrier account number, any transfer PIN, and the billing address.
Carrier account numbers and PINs are stored encrypted and are not displayed again. Use Edit carrier account details to correct an unsubmitted request or add details missing from an older draft.
Add each number and its destination location, then choose Check these numbers. A failed check can be repeated. Unsupported number types use assisted transfer instead of being submitted online.
Supporting documents
For an online US transfer, upload a carrier bill dated within the last 30 days. It should identify the account holder, address and numbers being moved. The authorization letter will be emailed to the representative for signature after submission.
Assisted transfers require a signed authorization letter. Contact support to arrange submission. Saving an assisted request does not send it to the carrier.
Submission and completion
Submit sends an eligible online transfer. Check the result shown: a failed submission, a request needing assistance, and an unknown provider result are different outcomes.
If the result is unknown, do not submit again. Scheduled provider checks try to identify the existing request. A result that cannot be matched safely needs support review.
Each number has its own status, including a carrier rejection or cancellation. A completed transfer does not activate routing automatically: test and verify each moved line before marking it live.
Stop a transfer
Choose Request cancellation. A transfer that has not been sent stops immediately.
For an online transfer already with the carrier, Cortege reads its status from Twilio and then sends the cancellation. If some numbers have already moved, only the remaining numbers are cancelled; moved numbers stay with Cortege. Twilio accepts a cancellation only more than 72 hours before the move date. Closer to the date, contact support so they can ask the carrier.
Twilio accepting the cancellation is not the carrier confirming it. Numbers may still move until the transfer shows Stopped. If the result is unknown, do not request it again: scheduled checks read the transfer and record what happened.
For an assisted transfer, the control records your request. Contact support to cancel with the carrier.
Once a number has moved, moving it back requires another transfer.
Buy a new number
Choose Get a new number, select a country and number type, and search. You can also enter an area code. The results include provider pricing and expire after fifteen minutes.
Search results are not reservations. Another customer can buy a number before you confirm your purchase.
Some numbers require an approved registration. Saving an address in Cortege records it for review; support must arrange provider approval before it can be used for a purchase.
Choose Approve this price, then Buy it. Cortege records your approval before contacting the provider. A confirmed purchase adds the number to your register with routing inactive.
If the purchase result is unknown, another purchase is blocked. Scheduled checks read the provider inventory and record confirmed ownership. They do not repeat the purchase or release the number. Contact support for an urgent unresolved result; the current scheduled check runs daily.
After purchase, configure the line, test its destination and activate it. A setup failure does not release the number.
Transfer a number away
Ask your next provider to start the move. Contact Cortege support for the account details and any PIN the next carrier requires.
Releasing a number is different: it gives the number back to the provider's available pool. Use that option only when you intend to give it up, and verify the number before confirming.
Withdraw an unfinished setup
Withdraw stops a setup that has not gone live. It does not release a number or disable forwarding at your carrier. Turn forwarding off with the carrier separately.
Change my mind withdraws an approved quote before purchase. A purchase already in progress cannot be withdrawn until its outcome is known.
Configure the on-call rota separately, and test the backup number under Backup call routing. Cortege support verifies the outage backup.
For shared answering across firms, follow Connect a shared receptionist. Keep its region approval, assigned line and published routing separate from provisioning the number.
