Request a signature
Start with the correct PDF in Documents. Word documents and unreadable or protected PDFs cannot be signed here.
Prepare the request
- Review the exact retained PDF and the case contact who will sign it.
- For a document with Required signers, choose all contacts and their roles, mark the required signers, and select Save signers. The saved signer set cannot be changed; prepare a new document if it is wrong.
- Select Request signature and the intended signer. For ordinary documents without a configured signer set, enter the requested signer details.
- Choose in-person signing or signing by link. Check any statement link before Ready to sign.
Each required signer signs a separate counterpart of the same source document. Check all required signatures; one signed copy does not establish that everyone has signed. Earlier requests and declined or cancelled outcomes remain in history.
In person
Open the PDF and let the named signer read it before starting the signature. The signing dialog does not display the PDF itself.
Select Sign for the request and give the device to the signer. They draw their signature, read the electronic-signing disclosure and consent, then select Save signature.
Check that the signed document is filed on the case. If filing fails, the screen reports that nothing was signed; resolve the problem before asking again.
By link
Create or use a family link with Signing selected. Only remote requests appear there. The signer named by staff is the signer on the request; the family does not choose a different name.
A remote request cannot be completed with the in-person control. Cancel it and create the correct type if the circumstances change.
Declined or incorrect request
Use They declined to record a refusal or Cancel request to withdraw a pending request. Start a new request if the person or document is wrong.
The first statement signature locks its lines. Check that every required signature is complete and that the correct agreement is effective. Use Prepare replacement for later changes. A portal link grants case access; it does not independently verify the signer’s identity.
For signatures collected on paper, upload the signed PDF and record the exact source copy and signer through Paperwork packets. Paper evidence is distinct from electronic consent.
