Ask the assistant

Open Assistant in the firm navigation, or open the assistant panel while working. If the assistant is off, ask a manager to enable it under Settings → Case workflow → Assistant. If it is unavailable, contact support.

  1. Start a New conversation, or select an existing conversation from History.
  2. Enter a question about your firm’s procedures or using Cortege. Do not include Social Security numbers, dates of birth, causes of death or family correspondence. Questions are shared with the firm’s AI provider.
  3. Select Send or press Enter. Shift+Enter starts a new line.
  4. Read the answer and check any Answer incomplete notice before acting. Confirm unclear guidance with your manager.

Case lookup is limited to records you can access. Ordinary answers do not change records. Choose a case before requesting a task, call record or internal note.

Select Stop to stop an answer in progress. Your question remains saved, but a partial answer is not saved as a completed reply.

Internal actions

Select Case for actions, find the case by name or number, and check its label before asking. The selected case stays fixed until you change it.

A complete command such as Add task "Call the supplier" due 2026-11-15 assigned to me saves once and shows a receipt. Other requests produce an editable card: check the wording, owner, date and actual call outcome, then select Apply. Task deadlines are dates, not timed reminders. Assignment and @mentions may notify staff.

You can also ask to reassign or reschedule an eligible manual task. Check the existing task and proposed changes before selecting Apply. You can also review a proposal to complete or reopen an eligible manual task. Automatically reported tasks must be resolved through their underlying records. Select Dismiss to discard a proposed action.

A shift handover action creates an internal draft for the selected colleague. Review its outstanding work and next action; saving a draft does not complete the tasks or acknowledge the handover. You can propose a small task set from reviewed meeting notes. Review each proposed task, owner and due date before applying the set.

Call records describe interactions that already happened. An optional next task needs an owner and date; recording a call does not complete another task. A retained call can be corrected from the case.

Internal notes append to the current shared notes. Undo is available for a new task or note while its record remains unchanged. Open the case to make later corrections. Family messages, invitations and publication are not available through assistant actions.

If a response is interrupted, reopen the conversation to check its action receipt. Saved means the case change committed. Retry the same action when its result is uncertain; do not create another action to check the first.

Use Was this useful? to record feedback. Open Need more help? for your firm’s help contact, or ask your manager. If no answer was recorded, try again; your question may already have been saved.

To contact Cortege support, ask Open a support case. This creates a ticket with a recent conversation excerpt and shows a link to it. Repeating the request in the same conversation reuses the ticket; start a new conversation for a separate issue.

Delete this conversation permanently removes the conversation. Case changes, action receipts and company-data access records remain.

Managers can maintain the assistant’s documents.
